You may have thought the day would never come, but lo and behold here we are...
What is this?
Yes, it's true!
Ubersite now supports bold and italicized words as well as both at the same time.
How do I do that?
The tags are the same as in HTML - the "I" tag and the "B" tag. For example: < I>italics</I> or < B>bold</B>. I had to insert a couple of extra spaces in the example to prevent the parser from applying the font styles, but hopefully you get the idea.
Of note, this will only work in message bodies... you can't use this syntax in comments, subjects, or on the uberboard. There are plenty of ways to annoy people solely with words, so we don't need to add in a bunch of bolded text to add to the effect.
Separate neat new thing is that if you click on the My Uber page, at the bottom of the page you can see the last ten posts you reviewed. It will only show you your most recent review from each of those posts, so if you have five comments on a single post, you'll only see the latest one in the list along with comments from nine other posts.
And for the love of god, Ubersite is not shutting down. If it were, it certainly wouldn't be announced by an "insider" via an uberboard message.
In fact, I'm planning on making some small but awesome changes to the site in the near future where the definition of "near" is left as an exercise to the reader. Among the changes one could expect to see are:
* Improvements to the label scheme that should allow for better ways of organizing and finding older posts. Among these will be a better way of identifying things that are in a series.
* Personalized filters so that the computer will filter out things you don't like and bring more attention to things you do like. You can already do this with your eyeballs, but that gets a little overwhelming when you only have a couple minutes to look at the site or your tastes are very exact.
* Myspace kind of shit like the ability to upload some cell phone pictures, write a bio, stalk fourteen year old girls from Pittsburgh, etc.
* The ability to buy uberboard messages in bulk with some kind of bonus for doing so.
* The ability to submit new quotes to display in rotation at the bottom of the site.
* Improved support for audio and video attachments.
* Moichandising
...and last but certainly not least is the real genuine Ubersite book. I am now in a position to get on this, so I will make an official announcement once I get a couple of administrative things done (forming an LLC, obtaining ISBN numbers, etc.). I am opting to go with a more complex setup rather than pay a third party for these kinds of services in hopes that this won't be "the" Ubersite book, but rather "the first" Ubersite book.
Before any rumors start, I have always acknowledged that I don't own anything submitted to this site for any purposes outside of its use in the normal operation of the site. This means that I can't just take your story, print it in a book, and make money on it without your permission. There will be some kind of voluntary contract, royalty structure, etc. between the included writers and the as of yet nonexistent LLC.
Beginning from when I submit this, the over-under on the "time until Habeeb makes a post entirely in bold italicized capital letters" countdown is 45 minutes.

Whoa, the MRR has the same post a few times, once per review.
Is this a bug or intentional?
If it's intentional it might be ok at the slower times, to sort of give you a sense of what's being reviewed the most etc. But if there's lots going on which happens occasionally, or especially if one post really gets going, it might lead to missed stuff?
Actually that's only if there's still a time period on when the MRR gets updated. What with the "three seconds ago" thing on the front page now, maybe you've done away with that too? In which case the new arrangement won't be too bad at all.

What about a couple of buttons on each post that lets you go to the next one and previous one? So if you do actually want to go through the front page you don't have to go back via the top left? Also, if you're looking back through a bandwagon, or if you're going through old posts, without changing the URL each time?

It doesn't have to be an option for us to directly delete these posts either, or we'd just delete stuff we don't like anymore etc. But if you won't, what you're essentially doing is weighing the general importance of keeping Ubersite an "unmoderated forum" etc., which is of course bullshit anyway, against specific cases of posts which could hurt the poster in specific ways.
And the comments on those posts don't have to be deleted either, if that's part of the worry.

In general, the goal for the changes to Ubersite is not to make it more serious, but to make it more kick ass. There is enough room for every kind of material. However, if the site is to grow, it would mean that there was much more stuff being written than I would ever have time to read and I would like to maximize the perceived volume of quality work for each individual reader. News and magazine style sites do this editorially, but that limits the exposed material to a watered down version of a certain style or genre. To build something that is interesting for everybody is a rather complicated effort.

Speaking of annoyances, do you have a plan in the works to eliminate the possibility of the alter parades that are going on around here or stop them dead in their tracks or something? I mean...I've totally not contributed to any of it. Not even when I signed up for the lady that became known as "the pissed off mother from growingfamily." I also apologize if that alter created you any undue stress, headaches, or the like.

By the way, an uberbook with writings available here on ubersite is alright. Getting some of the authors to write kick ass stories would even be better. Maybe you can have a team of uber folks get emailed submissions and judge what should fit? Just an opinion. I probably would buy a book just to support uber either way, but I'd certainly be more excited to read new material.
