After several Years of putting it off... I finally watched the Pirates of Silicon Valley... Yeah I know that movie is old news. But whatever, I just watched it.

In retrospect it made me feel even better about the fact that I bought a MacBook Pro about a year ago. Initially I got it because of the fact that you could finally run WINDOWS on it... an ability that I invoked, rarely used, and promptly removed.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Windows, and I will never be one of those crusading Mac users that slam and criticize Microsoft at every opportunity. Hell I have made a pretty good living with my ability to UNFUCK problems caused by relatives and clients that are not aware of the holes in Windows that allow them to wreak havoc on their own computer.

See now I always knew that primary inspiration for the GUI standard came from Xerox. I knew that Apple pretty much walked in to it. I also knew that that Bill Gates had some affiliation with Apple that allowed him to reverse engineer the Macintosh Platform and repackage it as Windows.

Hell I can't get mad at him... He is a ruthless bastard the way he did it... No I am not allowing the sensationalism of the movie influence how I percieve the manner in which all these incidents occurred, I know that artistic license was used to increase the dramatics of the Movie....but like I was saying, can't really be to mad about his method of gaining control. Bill Gates is obviously a shrewd businessman. Regardless of How he got there, the fact that he is there... living the life of the wealthiest man on the Planet speaks to his abilities as a business man... Ethical or not.. he got there on his own.

However I digress, I am very glad to now be a Macintosh user. There is something to be said for taking an idea and improving on it, and taking an idea and repackaging it. It is the fine line between stealing and innovating.

I can honestly say that I have not had any problems with my Mac since I bought it, beyond my trial and error in learnign the ins and outs of it. And after all the years that I have used Windows, and all the multitude of problems that have yet to be resolved in the infrastucture of Windows, I am very surprised that Windows still has the stranglehold on the Market that it does.

I haven't tried Vista Yet and I probably won't until I get it given to me.I still have a Windows Machine that frustrates me regularly, and truth be told, it will be the last one that I ever buy.

Sorry Bill but it's over. It has been a good run, you and me. I will continue to clean up your messes for the masses that still have yet to see the light and the error of your ways. I will still charge 100.00 bucks an hour to put bandaids on the flimsy holes in your Crappy Product. But as for me... I will take my Mac and wait for the Revolution.

People exploit the holes in Windohoes because a hell of a lot more people use Windows than Macs. Computer illiterate people piss me off too. And, Macs are for fags.

Vista has one huge, huge, HUGE thing going for it.

It's not the pretty interface.

It's not the improved start menu.

It's not 3D task switching.

It's not SuperCache or whatever the piss they've called the new prefetch and swap file.

It's CERTAINLY not the voice command system ( *NSFW* http://www.dumphead.com/item/2007/02/windows-vista-speech-recognition NSFW*)

It's the ability to supplement user rights to Admin from a user account (much like the SU command on Linux). For that alone, I would aquire Vista.

And anyone who capitalizes "Network Technician and Consultant" is pompous. Sorry, but it's true.

Kind of like your local neighborhood garbage man referring to himself as an "Environmental Engineer".

I've yet to see a single piece of Vista, but I don't plan to upgrade any time soon. If anything I'll buy a Mac for my music studio and keep my Windows machines for servers, etc. I currently run my home server on Win2K OS and it has never crashed or had performance problems, not once.

Really, haven't had many problems with XP either, although my wife's laptop tends to dog on performance with it, but I don't blame the OS for that, I blame the slow hardware.

Of course, I work on NEITHER platform at work...gotta love mainframe and OSS!

My first PC was a Mac LC in 1990. I bought the computer, upgraded the HDD to 20 MB, upgraded the RAM to 10MB, added a math coprocessor, a 600dpi laser printer, and basic office software for the rediculously low price of $5500US. It was far more capable than the DOS-based PCs that were available at the time. I never had a problem with it, and in fact I still own it. It still works.

Since then I've had several Windows-type computers, all running Win98se. I learned how to fix them when I screwed them up. Recently, I purchased a new Dell tower (for the home office), a new Sony laptop (for me) and a new Compaq laptop (for my wife). All have Windows XP Media Center. For the average home user, these machines are better because they're cheaper to buy, stable under normal use, and less costly to equip with software and additional hardware.

And anyone who capitalizes "Network Technician and Consultant" is pompous. Sorry, but it's true.

Windows v Mac is almost as stupid as Holden v Ford or Gibson v Fender or any of the stupid rivalries along those lines. It's always just people on both sides pointing and going "You're gay!" and the response is usually "Nuh uh, YOU are!"

Windows runs perfect if you aren't a moron.
-----------------

The way to make something practical is to make it easy to use...

Morons SHOULD for all intents and purposes be able to use something as versatile as a Personal Computer...

And by the way I am a veteran Network Technician and Consultant and I assure you that the problem with PC's is not entirely the user.

the problem with PCs are the users. i think the downfall of the PC has been the 'family computer' mindset. i never have problems with my 6 year old hp.

whatever tho.

Hell I still operate a Computer consulting business and it amazes me some of the problems that Windows STILL has YET to correct... I marvel over the fact that some of the issues that I used to regularly deal with on my PC I have forgotten about until I have to fix them on a Clients computer and I kind of chuckle to myself.

Ah, yes, I bought my powerbook a year and a half ago, and it still amazes me. When I use my mom's Dell it gets frustrating what with programs that freeze up and the slowness.

I'll never understand this attitude.

My point is that people don't just fall in to being the Wealthiest Person on the planet....By Ethical means or not Bill Gates amassed a fortune.

We are masters of our destinies and Bill Gates did SOMETHING to get to where he is today, Hell I can say that I wish I knew how to become a Multi-Billionaire.
