Black History Month - Almost Made it (478 hits)

I almost made it through the entire month of February without hearing about BLACK History month. First of all, notice that it is called BLACK History month and not African-American History Month.
But, I digress. I got all the way to the 23rd of Feb with nary a mention of the aforementioned month. I was blissfully unaware that it wasn't just the 2nd month of the year until I poked my head out of my white boy only world and saw the movie 'The Number 23'.
BTW, don't see it - it is definitely a wait for video movie. Not that it was bad, it just wasn't worth the $9.50 for the ticket, the $5 for the 'medium' Cherry Coke, or the $4.50 for the 'small' popcorn. Why do I always get the soda and popcorn when I go to the movies? I never like the popcorn and I feel like my bladder is going to burst after drinking the 'medium' Coke. Not only that, but I just doubled the cost of the movie.
Shit, got distracted again. Well, there isn't much more than that - I hate Black History Month. Not because I hate BLACK people but because I hate how it enforces the difference between the races. Speaking of which, see this awesome thread again: http://www.ubersite.com/m/58417
Back on African-Americans, WTF? The only person I know for sure is African American is Teresa Heinz-Kerry. That little (old) white girl was actually born over in Africa and then later (1971) became a citizen of the US. A Black man that was born over in Sub-Saharan Africa and later becomes an American citizen, is African-American. Black people that were born over here are just American, nay, more than just, God Damn It, they are AMERICAN!
Ancestry is important but it does not make who you are - it is all in the past. Where you are currently and how you behave is much more important.

There are 11 months with 30/31 days and one with 28 days. Somebody within the US govt chose the single 28-day month to celebrate black history. Am I the only one amused by this?

ps, I'm also English, Melungeon, Irish, French, German, and...hmmm, I guess that's it. btw Melungeon means I'm part American and Black, which explains the penis thing. Not really, but it made for a pretty lame joke.

In high school we had these awful black history assemblies that lasted 3 hours. It's so wonderful knowing those days are over.
