ADD Delightfulness http://www.ubersite.com/m/99355
She was always the rebellious one. The one who called us the "Jilted Generation", she was right as usual.
There was nothing left to rebel against. Sex was out since the AIDS epidemic had reached such epic proportions and the Christian Coalition government banned contraception and drove the scientists working on the cure underground. "A curse from God on the fornicators and soddomites", it sounds like something out of the Middle Ages, but that pretty much summed up the attitudes of the new American Dictatorship.
Drugs were gone too. The old drugs that I read about simply didn't exist anymore and since the "synthetics" scare, things had become too risky. The only exception was the daily dose of H1JX, administered to every citizen. The Freaks called it Hux and so did we, long before we ever read "Brave New World", which had been removed from circulation shortly after the Christians had taken power.
Of course this all happened long before I remember. Not that I remember much until She persuaded me to start palming my Hux and I began to become aware. The Freaks were always keen to take it off our hands and they had things to trade.
Books and old newspapers were the main things. I could spend days just sitting around reading things that were no longer available. Brave New World, 1984, Generation X, Plato, Freud, whatever. I absorbed it like a sponge, there was never enough time to read everything they had before they moved on.
She had introduced me to them too. We would spend days camped out with them, drinking in knowledge and the potent liquor they made from cactus.
The Freaks were left alone by most, mainly because they were trapped in their permanent "Hux Haze". They were left alone by the government too. I believe that they were the only thing that scared them. They didn't fit into their "Creationist" thinking.
Most were former synthetic users or the children of addicts. The stem-cells had created some interesting deformities. Extra limbs, bulbous growths and hermaphrodite characteristics were some of the common ones. Of course some of them were just little people or other afflictions or gifts that provided some sign of evolution theory that led them to be ostracised.
They were the ones that helped her escape. The only thing She truly desired was death and they gave her it and hid her for long enough to make resuscitation impossible.
She never told me, I would have probably gone with her if I had known, but I wish She had stayed a little longer.
Things are starting to change. The commune is growing in size, I have joined them permanently now. My parents haven't even realised I am gone. I may look normal, whatever that means, but I am as much of a freak as any of them. Our time is coming. Soon we will start to wake people from this government controlled stupor and show them the real world.
It is time.

I love Brave New World. I opened this up and read it with the hope that you would reference it. You did. Good.
