I'm sure that almost everyone has at least heard of the collectable card game Magic the Gathering that was the brainchild of Richard Garfield back in the '90s. Its a pretty excellent game on many levels, but its also as addictive as crack cocaine and can boast to be the more expensive of the two addictions. But the art of the cards never fails to impress. Here's a collection of wallpapers featuring art from various cards from various sets.

Needs a LOT more Rob Alexander! Rob did the art for every Ravnica block shock land (ALL of them!) plus a few of the Ravnica basic lands. His landscape pictures are unparalleled. Plus, he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I also met Mark Poole who's my favorite artist.
I wish I could give higher than +2 for magic! I just got done winning 4th at the 2 Headed Giant State Champs last Saturday. Hooray for Magical Cards!

Not the best selection of the art you can find on Magic cards, but +1 for bringing it to everyone's attention.

This game may be for basement dwellers, but the art is damn good.

Was it really as recently as the 90's? My brother used to play this game when he was in the 5th or 6th grade, and my mom used to have this incredibly dorky friend who brought over a huge box of cards to him one day, and told him they were from when he was in highschool in the 80's. So I always thought it had been around longer.

I used to love this game. I stopped playing in sixth grade when a friend of mine lost a card worth 300 dollars in a bet while he played with my deck without asking my permission. It was unforgivable.
I found out my neighbor played when I was a freshman in college, and we would just go to Wal Mart and steal literally hundreds of dollars' worth of these things. Yeah, the game is interesting.
And addictive? Oh yeah.

Take any one card from your opposition and use it against him.

They've certainly come a long ways with the artwork on those cards since I last played this game...which was about 1996.

I can put my hand up to not being in agreement with the following line because this was new to me:
'I'm sure that almost everyone has at least heard of the collectable card game Magic the Gathering'
Personally; I don't think the artwork is anything special in regards to this genre, mind you it all seems much of a muchness.
Still better than anything I could ever do.

I don't think this game beats out coke on the additions list. You're probably thinking of WoW or Everquest.
