Carsten Höller was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1961and lives and works in Fasta, Sweeden.

His "Art" focuses very much on visitor interaction, with previous works including Upside-Down Mushroom Room (2000), Ball House (1999) and Frisbee House (2000).

In recent years he has concentrated on installing slides in various museums and galleries in Germany, Italy, Finland and the USA.

He has described a slide as ".....a sculptural work with a pragmatic aspect', and the experience of sliding as "voluptuous panic upon an otherwise lucid mind". (a quote from French writer Roger Caillois)

His latest installation Test Site is currently being shown at the Tate Modern in London as part of the Unilever series, which places a single exhibition in the vast space of the Turbine Hall.

This is by far the most ambitious of Höller's slide installations, reaching five stories in height and a length of 58 meters/190 feet. They have proved incredibly popular with visitors, with the exhibition being extended twice and rumours of a further extention currently circulating. As of this time, it is due to end on April 15th, which doesn't leave much time, however it is a very worthwhile experience.

(Apologies for the quality of the photographs, but it is incredibly difficult to get an angle where you can achieve a decent shot, given the scale of these things.)

My work day would be so much better if there was a slide in the building.

I went down the biggest of all those slides. It really fucking hurt my back. Apparently a couple poor sods have had bits broken when on them. Nice.

Anything could be considered art on some level. Art is based on perception. And I perceive that to be fucking awesome.
