Normally I don't revise or tinker with something once it's been set down, but for whatever reason I made an exception. Deal.
Mirror in your open hand, mirror on the wall
Mirror gonna shatter and the mirror gonna fall
Broken glass'll cut'cha baby, any way you try
Any way you look at it, oh girl you're gonna die
Steppin' on a sidewalk, steppin' on a crack
Breaking all the rules and turning both her eyes to black
Don't you hear your mother screaming down the hall?
Mirror gonna shatter, baby, mirror gonna fall
Black cat gonna come and the black cat gonna cry
Any way you look at it, oh girl you're gonna die
Eight graves mark the ground but now the devil wants his nine
Thirteen broken backs won't change his everlasting mind
Salt upon the flowerbed, salt upon the floor
Salt become a symbol 'low the scratches on the door
Bless your wounds and spit your soul, the boatman still gon' call
Mirror gonna shatter, baby, mirror gonna fall
One breath for the Lord, dear, one breath for the fire
Kiss your love g'night upon a bridge and be a liar
Broken glass'll cut'cha, baby, slice you eye to eye
Anyway you look at it, oh girl you're gonna die
Moths are at your windows, the moths are in your bones
Catch a breath inside you when you pass your mother's stone
Redbreast in the living room with murder on the wing
When your throat is spitting red the bloodsong's all you'll sing
Mirror gonna fall and the mirror gonna break
Leave her dead eyes open and another one she'll take
Black cat gonna come and the black cat gonna cry
Any way you look at it, oh girl you're gonna die

I'm honored to be somewhat, if only tangentially, minutely, and unimportantly, responsible for this.
My spell check says "unimportantly" is not a word. Fuck my spell check.

You are, indeed, to blame for this. You and Crystle. Though I hope you realize that I'd totally have put this on you if the poem wound up being terrible.

If I hear the funky intro to that song I cannot be responsible for whatever Awful White Man Dance Moves my body decides to pull off. Often I can't be trusted to NOT yell "awwwwwwwwww SHIT" when it peaks.
===
I stand by my claim that it is THE funkiest song EVER.

It's a regular Abbott and Costello comedy team around here.
You're Costello.

It's odd the things you keep with you. I remember having dinner with my dad when I was six or so, and I started popping a few of the bubbles that were in the glass of milk I'd poured for myself. He said I should stop doing that because they were a sign of good luck.
"The money in the milk," he'd said.
I don't have any reason to bust bubbles at my age now, but every now and then that phrase'll cross my mind.

I loved the rapid fire iambic pentameter this had to it. Was that intentional?
Stupid question.
---
Not really. I think I naturally 'default' to 12/13/14 syllable lines, so if I'm just writing something out without thinking about a set form it'll probably come out that way.
A little sing-songy, yes, but it might help with something like this.
How superstitious are you exactly?
-------
However you pull it off, it works well.
I'm not exactly 'full on superstitious' per se, but I picked up a few habits from my mum, like never walking under ladders, stepping over the cracks..... when I was younger I used to really follow that kind of thing, and as I've grown older, I've just followed the habits of childhood.
It's funny that what you practice as a kid can have an impact on your adult life, albeit unconsciously most of the time.

Christ what is it with you? Damn you for making poetry acceptable for me to read. Damn you I say.
I have even started wearing 'Puce', not pink, shirts. When I get ass raped I'm sending you the bill for stiches.
---
That's a confident lad. Pink shirts are where it's at. I debated wearing a pink button-down today, but felt it would conflict with the "Imma kick you in the hey-ud, shitheel" vibe the boots would give off.
