Much of my life I have been lost. I mean this literally as well as figuratively. All through my life I have searched not for a goal, but an idea with a goal in mind. Money has never made me happy, neither has possessions. On some level I enjoy the things I have. My computer, I pod, and DVD's usually serve as a great distraction from the world. I wonder if we spend so much money to fill the void in our lives. I have the nagging feeling that life is not right. It is somewhat off. Almost as if I am on a time delay, and the important instances of life pass by before the mind is able to grasp them.

As was once said, if you dig up the past, all you get is dirty. Its an apt saying. I have few regrets in life. The chief one, as could be guessed, was a woman. Sarah. The name itself brings pain, and pleasure. Pleasure in the fact that she matched me. The pain is because it was one of those moments that I should have grasped, but didn't. She filled a void that I was not even aware of until it was gone. She's married now, and I wish her well.

After much contemplation I realized that it was my fault. I loved her in simple way. She brought me joy. I would feel alive when she touched me. We talked nearly every day for hours at a time. The first time I met her she smiled and all my defenses were gone. People who knew me were stunned. I've always been the person who people could not get close too. I learned at an early age that emotions can run too deep for comfort. Words can hurt, more than any physical altercation. Most often it was the people I loved most that could hurt me. I learned to guard myself well.

I am not a person who makes good first impressions. I am blunt and honest to a fault. I am smart and like to have intellectual discussions that raise passions. I am opinionated and stubborn. These are my good qualities. Above all else I love to argue. Debate is a skill that is in poor use today. I thrive on it. She was only person who has ever stopped me speechless. I was defenseless before her, and I reveled in it. Her smile lit up my soul like basking in the sun, and it left me just as warm. Life with her was a glorious battle. She gave as good as she got. It was the only time in my life that I did not mind being defeated. She made an art of victory, and I could not deny her when she won.

During the young portion of my life I often viewed myself as helpless to stand in the way of fate. Being young and naive I simply felt that life would be as it turned out. I didn't have faith in myself or my ability to change things. I lack desire or ambition. I have rarely been stirred to grab life and hump it into submission. As it unfolded we never ended up seeing each other. I have a rule. I never steal my friends girlfriends. It creates such a quagmire that will drag you down. Even if it is love. Each year I would arrive at college hopeful that she was finally single and we could start, what I felt would last an eternity. Each summer I would return to college to find her with a different friend. Each year I would resume my post as best friend like nothing happened. I would talk to her for hours about everything. Occasionally I would spend the night and we would sit there looking at the stars.

It's the little things I remember. Holding her hair when she was sick and praying to the porcelain God. Helping her study for finals. Taking long walks that led to nowhere. Arguing till dawn about the silliest things. In the end I didn't realize fully what I had and what I would miss. For her part I think she tired of waiting for me. As I look back I realize that was the case. I remember the one kiss we shared. All others are judged by it. I remember how I could simply get lost in her eyes, and love every minute of it. I found out much later that she was waiting for me to make a move. I was incapable at the time. She dated my friends to keep me close and make me jealous. It worked, but I would not break on that one rule. Much to my regret.

So, ubersite, what is your biggest regret?

I try not to regret anything, but if I had to say one thing, it would be the fact that I never really got to know my Father as a "Friend" before he died.

I think the important thing is to learn from whatever experiences you have, bad or good.

My biggest regret was not believing that the 'gag reflex' was real and grabbing her hair so I could finish. Ahhh, well, she's in a better place now.

I read this over again, and read my subsequent comment and later on I realised there was something that I did regret, just one thing. A little girl I was babysitting when I was 12 years old told me something, something that I should have told people, and I didn't, and I don't know why.

Well, good then. It's quite easy to say 'I regret nothing' because in the end you will always find an upside to something if you look hard enough. I have met very few people who genuinely have no regrets. The trick is, not to have too many.

I miss that person I mentioned every day, without fail. I would dearly love to go back and change everything. I can't though, so I'm doing everything to move forwards.

I have many things that I guess you could say I "regret"...things I probably should have done differently, etc..but when it comes down to it, I can't say that I'd change anything in my past.

Thanx LM, I wrote this because its a rainy monday and I happened to see Sarah's picture in my room. I actually wondered what people regret in their lives. If they want to -2 me and write borish, simplistic and obvious comments, well good for them. I could care less about the rating as long as once in awhile I get an honest answer, which you have supplied.
