I think, if this were a poster, it would sell very well in college bookstores.

Just something about it.

Very cool.

I'm not sure if I rated this one or not before but either way have another because I smoked a little weed and being high and enjoying a post is much different than being unhigh and enjoying a post. Equally.

Around the armpits. +2. Bing!

Nope, yer not imagining it - it's definitely been a theme for me of late.

firstly, do me a personal favour, and please, pretty please dont use the word 'journey' again, unless you happen to be on an actual physical journey, like to a mountain of fire, or an elven fortress.

however, im surprised by the process, and how long it takes. watching the concept artist ive been working with the last two months or so, he normally takes maybe an hour from inception to finished work, though he is using a laptop with a tablet, which means he can scrub out shit as he goes, which im sure makes the creative process a little easier. so i guess, if youre using pen, then you have to think a bit harder about what youre doing as its largely permanent once its on the page. so a comparison there is not really fair.

however, despite this, the art is better than most everything being posted now, whether it appeals to me or not, so i guess thats worth some praise, for whatever its worth. though the pictures seem to me to have the appearance of meaning, but with nothing else, and the lack of colour (only due to the medium, of course) kind of removes a beauty for beauty's sake element. the shapes and convergence of ides feels like its should be saying something, and im sure there are many here who would make the mistake of trying to infer meaning from it, but really as i said, its a jumble of ideas with no particular theme.

in my (very limited, especially with visual art) opinion, ill stick with the doodle. a very good doodle (insert dick joke), of course, but a doodle nonetheless. it would be interesting to see what you would produce in a studio. the mixtures of colours in your landscapes was good, and i understand this is a difficult technique to master without painting mudpools over and over and over.

---

Animator / Illustrator by trade... http://www.ubersite.com/m/110482 shows off my illustration portfolio pretty well.

I'm not much of a 'designer' (per se) in that there are much more talented folks out there who make their living as such - but I can do the job in a pinch.

internet animosity aside, i just dont think much of this artistic style. i said it before as a jibe, but it just feels to me like telephone pad doodle. i much preferred the landscapes you posted (though the windmill at sunset wasnt exactly inspired subject material). i mean, artistically, you could say this is like stream of consciousness writing, but really, its more like gibberish, whcih is cool once or twice i suppose (and dont get me wrong, i am probably the single worst drawer, painter whatever of all time), but now id just prefer to see something that takes you more than 15 minutes to do and requires some actual thought on your behalf.

---

Hey fair enough. That is the beauty of art my little cheat code.

I'm surprised you felt compelled to share such things with a figment of your imagination (I mean don't look now but you are perilously close to engaging me in a real conversation. >gasp<) but in the spirit of such inexplicable progress I will run with it.

When I talk about this kind of creation - I actually use that very same terminology - 'stream of consciousness', See, I very rarely know what I want to draw when I begin - only that I really enjoy the process. Usually I start with some random lines and shapes and begin to shade them - each stroke of the pen defining just a little more bit more of what it will eventually become. I try all kinds of things and delight in the transformation of inky chaos to recognizable elements. Along the journey I see a vast amount of images and do my best to capture and highlight them - while still maintaining an overall composition to the piece.

From it's inception this took me roughly 7 hours to draw - over the span of about 4 days. I would draw an hour or two and then walk away. Pick it up sometime later and continue - always re-forming, re-shaping. Today I spent about an hour getting it in the computer and worked on the final presentation.

Now, is there a lot of thought involved in these? I don't know. My brain is racing and when you consider the amount of intricate little details and random creations I'd argue I am thinking the whole time.

I rather enjoy doing the pastels as well... I find them a little more messy and until I get into a studio I will likely just stick with the pen/pencil and paper for the most part.

I understand what id..idq...Sam said, but it's still way cool. I can't draw either. The kid drew a picture for me today of her holding a heart over her head. They stopped by work to give it to me, as they were passing by. I wasn't there; I was moving four tons of shit out of storage facility in the 112-degree heat. My wife thought I was out to lunch with one of the office lovelies. I have no idea why I'm telling you this. Oh yeah, the kid draws wonderfully.
